School Board Member Facing Attempted Murder, Rape, and Pimping Charges

  • Published: August 2, 2012

Moreno Valley school board member Mike Rios is facing criminal charges for attempted murder, rape, pimping and pandering.

Despite the charges, Rios still is planning running for city council.

In February, Rios was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he fired shots at a car passing by his home. He was released on bail and returned to the board.

He was continuously urged to resign from being a board member.

Two months later, he was arrested on suspicion of raping two women, pimping and using his position as a school board member to recruit prostitutes (some minors).

If convicted, he could face a life sentence. He was released on $250,000 bail.

After his arrest, the Democratic Club started an official recall which requires 10,000 signatures by October.

Candidates have until August 9th to file their candidacy for City Council. Rios has his next court appearance set for the following day.

These charges Rios is facing are extremely serious and as stated above, can result in lifetime imprisonment.
