What If I’m Under Investigation for a Sex Crime?

Posted by Ronald D. Hedding | Jan 28, 2021

What Can You Do if You Feel Like You're Being Investigated for a Sex Crime in California?

Sex crimes are investigated all the time across the United States.  I've handled thousands of cases in Los Angeles over the last 27 years, and a lot of times, believe it or not, people get wind that they're being investigated:

  • maybe somebody tells them;
  • maybe they go on the wrong website, or
  • do some action like sexing with a minor;
  • maybe law enforcement comes and seizes all of their computers, phones, iPads from their homes and leaves them a search warrant.

However, they are not yet arrested. There is a whole assortment of ways that somebody knows that they're getting investigated for a sex crime.

Retain a Criminal Lawyer

Probably the worst thing you could do is do nothing, bury your head in the sand, and hope for the best.

What If I'm Under Investigation for a California Sex Crime?

The best thing you can do is hire a skilled criminal defense attorney familiar with handling sex crime cases. When I get these cases, I will call law enforcement up. I will call the prosecutors up.  I will do everything it takes to make sure that:

  • your rights are protected;
  • that the other side obtains your side of the story,  and
  • then, we do everything we can to keep you out of custody.

We make the right moves from the beginning.  I can't tell you how many people have tried to handle a sex crime investigation themselves, for whatever reason, and ended up with a disastrous situation.

It's usually that attempt to handle the sex crime case yourself that is the best evidence the prosecutors end up with at the end of the day in convicting you.

If you're charged, or if you're being investigated for a sex crime, your best bet is to pick up the phone and call somebody like me, Ron Hedding.  Ask for a meeting.  What I do is I charge you a fee to get on the case.

Buffer Between You and the Criminal Justice System

It's called a pre-filing fee, and now you've got a buffer between:

  • you and the police,
  • you and the prosecutors,
  • you and the court system,  and
  • one who knows what they're doing and has dealt with these people before.

They've got a lot of power over you.  You lose control when you get arrested for one of these sex crime cases, and it's not fair.  They use their authority.

They flex their muscles against you.  Often, people feel compelled to give a statement when they really shouldn't do that.  Don't get tricked.  Don't get pressured.  Let your attorney do the talking for you.

Criminal Defense for California Sex Crimes

It's rarely a good idea to talk to the police unless you and your attorney have thought about it, discussed it, and made a joint decision that it's the best move for you.

So, I stand at the ready to help you.  If you're being investigated for a sex crime case, call us to review the details.

Criminal Defense for California Sex Crimes

If it's at the pre-filing stage and you either don't want the case filed or if you know the case will be filed and you want to do damage control, you've come to the right place.

You've found the right site.  Now take that first step because that first step is significant in protecting your future.
